Plein Air

Plein Air Painting is a term for searching your motive and paint it wherever it is set, in its natural environment and light – mostly outside. The first huge movement in Plein Air was in England and France in the 19th Century. It excludes the use of photography or pure imagination in contrast to composing in the atelier.

Since human consciousness developed out of rhythms and cycles, landscape and seasons strongly represent functions of the psyche. One might consider them beautiful, threatening or not notice them at all, nevertheless they keep up their influence on us.
